Most members of the Washington Balalaika Society, like many amateur and professional musicians throughout the U.S. and Canada, are also members of the Balalaika and Domra Association of America (BDAA). Formed in 1978 by three American musicians who made their living playing Russian, Ukrainian and eastern European music, the BDAA today numbers over 400 members throughout the world.
The BDAA publishes a quarterly Newsletter, maintains an archive of music for use by members and orchestra affiliates, sponsors musical tours to Russia and hosts an annual Convention which draws from 120 to 180 musicians and friends together for a week of study, rehearsal and performance.
